Computer and Data Management Unit

• Processing of data and statistical analysis using  software packages like:
  • SPSS,
  • SigmaStat, SigmaPlot,
  • EquivTest,
  • PK Solutions,
  • Enzyme Kinetics,
  • nQuery Advisor
  • other biostatistical programmes
• Statistical services include:
  • data processing
  • statistical analysis (including bioequivalence data analysis)
  • developing and monitoring information systems/databases
  • report formatting and publication
• Computer services encompass:
  • configuration of networking
  • in-house training on computer software
  • development of computerized systems
  • problem solving of hardware/software for users in the Centre

Laboratory

• The Centre possesses various types of research facilities at its laboratories.
• The laboratories of the Centre have been accredited by international, regional and national agencies.
• There are several unique and commendable equipment such as:
  • Densitometer
  • Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectrometer
  • Liquid scintillation counter
  • UV-Visible spectrophotometer
  • High performance liquid chromatographic system (HPLC) with ultra-violet, fluorescence, electro-chemical & diode array detectors
  • Gas chromatographic system (GC) with mass spectrometry (MS) FID, ECD and NPD detectors

  • Ultra centrifuge

  • Universal Hood II Gel-Doc XR
  • Computer Simulation and Drug Design (software)

Clinical studies of the Centre will be conducted in Penang Hospital , Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Tawau Hospital.

Drug Education & Prevention Unit

Among the activities conducted by the Unit are:

• Talks, forums, seminars and workshops on drug education and prevention, motivation
• Exhibition on dangers and adverse health effects of abusing drugs
• Youth camps to promote drug-free life styles
• Research and surveys on youth drug abuse problems
• Advisory services through telephone, info lines and meetings
• Outreach programs
• Counseling for support groups (individuals and groups)
