CDR SPREADS HARI RAYA CHEER TO YOUNG PATIENTS AT PENANG GENERAL HOSPITAL
PENANG, 28 March 2025 — In a heartfelt initiative to bring festive joy to children undergoing treatment, the Centre for Drug Research (CDR) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) organized its annual 'Program Tautan Kasih Ramadan' at the Penang General Hospital's paediatric wards. This community outreach aimed to uplift the spirits of young patients who were unable to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri at home.
Associate Professor Dr. Darshan Singh, the project's coordinator, emphasized the significance of sharing festive happiness with hospitalized children during Ramadan. Each child in wards C1, C2, and C3 received thoughtfully prepared goodie bags containing nutritious snacks, and a token 'duit raya' to mark the celebration. Adding to the festive atmosphere, two postgraduate students donned cartoon mascot costumes, bringing smiles and laughter to the children, who eagerly took photos with their cheerful visitors.
The initiative was further supported by CDR Director, Professor Dr. Vikneswaran Murugaiyah, and the Centre’s Welfare Club Deputy President, Dr. Farah Wahidah Suhaimi, who joined in distributing gifts and expressing gratitude to the dedicated nursing staff.
Dr. Darshan, reflecting on the program's origins during his student days, expressed hope for its continuation and growth, highlighting its role in fostering compassion and community connection. CDR extends sincere appreciation to all collaborators whose support was instrumental in the success of this meaningful event.
