EXHIBITION ON ADDICTION AT K2M TO RAISE COMMUNITY AWARENESS

23 AUGUST 2025, SEBERANG JAYA – The Centre for Drug Research (CDR), Universiti Sains Malaysia was invited as exhibitor at Karnival Kimia Malaysia (K2M), Northern Zone 2025 organised by Institut Kimia Malaysia Northern Branch in collaboration with Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Pulau Pinang. In line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 i.e. Quality Education, the event objectives include nurturing students’ interest in science, consistent with the government’s initiative in promoting STEM education and creating awareness among the community. The event was attended by primary and secondary school students, and the public.

CDR exhibition at the event was spearheaded by CDR Journal Club of which the members are consisted of the Centre’s postgraduate students. The team of students and the Club Advisor, Dr. Siti Rafidah Yusof took this opportunity to exhibit on the topic of addiction, and how it affects the cognitive function. The booth visitors were exposed to facts on addiction, introduced to laboratory techniques to assess cognitive function, and were given the opportunity to partake in memory games. All these in an effort to raise awareness on addiction particularly among the youth. Additionally, the event also provided a platform for CDR postgraduate students to practise science communication. CDR exhibition was well-received and was given the recognition as one of the best exhibitions at the event.
